New iOS Feature Allows Friends and Family To Keep Tabs on Your Travels

Apple’s newest iPhone software update, iOS 17, includes an innovative feature called Check In that enables users to easily send and receive notifications when a loved one is traveling. This can help reduce anxiety for both travelers and their friends and family waiting for them at their destination.

How the Check In Feature Works

Check In integrates Apple’s messaging and location services. When you initiate a Check In, your iPhone tracks your location and automatically alerts your chosen recipient when you arrive somewhere by a certain time. If delays occur or you don’t respond to prompts, your recipient is notified.

For travelers, simply send a Check In message before leaving and let your iPhone handle the rest. If delayed, assure recipients you’re still coming and add time to your ETA when prompted.

Recipients get notifications at four key times:

1. When the Check In is initiated
2. When the traveler reaches their destination
3. If the traveler is delayed and misses check-in prompts
4. If the traveler’s iPhone goes offline for an extended period or makes an Emergency SOS call

Providing Peace of Mind for Travelers and Loved Ones

The Check In feature makes it simple to keep friends and family updated on your travels, helping to reduce anxiety on both ends.
