Gmail already includes some useful Smart Replies that you can utilize when you’re extremely busy or when impersonal responses would suffice for certain emails. But what if you don’t have anything to say and the best way to respond to an email is… an emoji? Google, on the other hand, has your back. The internet titan has announced emoji reactions for Gmail, which means you’ll be able to react to emails in the same way you can to instant messaging.

Google has begun to roll out the functionality to Android devices, and you’ll notice it if you see a smiley face icon at the bottom of an email when you open it in the app. You can press on the icon to bring up a menu of emoji options to choose from. Everyone’s reactions will appear directly next to the icon, and some of them will include small animations. If you select the party popper, for example, be prepared to see digital confetti on your screen when you send one or open a message containing party popper reactions. People on the email chain who don’t use Gmail, on the other hand, will receive each reaction as a separate email. While emoji reactions are currently only available on Android, the feature will soon be available on iOS devices and the web.
