Taking care of the data on your cell phone can make a big difference in your daily life. And it is that, even if you don’t notice it at first, if your information is shared without care, you may start to notice strange things happening because of the wrong use of your information. For example, spam texts on your cell phone, fake calls, and even trying to get money from you.

Because of this, it’s very important to learn how to take care of the info on your cell phone. After all, it’s common for companies, brands, and social networks to make money by selling your information. We’ve usually agreed to this when we first started using them, because it’s written in a list of terms and conditions that we usually read quickly.

But there are other ways that cybercriminals or attackers can get our private information if we aren’t careful and misuse it. Even with some AI tools, like deepfake technology, there is a chance that our photos will be used in dangerous ways, like pornography or in fake reports that are part of scam systems that are becoming more popular in the tech world. Avoid having your information stolen or used in a way that isn’t what you wanted by taking care of your cell phone data in these ways that almost no one knows about but that make a big difference.

Turn off your cell phone for five minutes a day

Cyberattacks got a lot worse in 2020, especially because it was hard to leave the house because of the pandemic. At that time, the Prime Minister of Australia suggested that people in his country turn off their cell phones for five minutes every 24 hours, like when they were cleaning their teeth. The idea behind this plan is to set up a security measure to stop hackers from getting in.

Priyadarsi Nanda, a professor at the University of Technology in Sydney, says that turning off your phone will stop any apps or processes that are running in the background. This includes apps that may be watching what you do or collecting data without you knowing it. So, it’s important to turn off the cell phone every once in a while to break the link between possible attack methods. In fact, the National Security Agency of the United States also recommended that people turn off their cell phones once a week to protect themselves from hacker threats.

Even though some apps can be stopped by hand, others won’t stop running until the device is turned off or restarted. This means that you have to start over every now and then.

Use antivirus and avoid suspicious apps

Many bugs get into cell phones through apps that aren’t safe or official. For example, a report from the cybersecurity company Kaspersky says that viruses like the “Fleckpe” Trojan can get onto mobile phones through about 11 photo-editing apps. More than 600,000 devices have already been infected by this malware, which signs users up for online payment services without their permission. Because of this, it’s very important not to download apps that look sketchy and to always have a firewall.

Turn off Wi-Fi when leaving home

If someone is not using WiFi, they should turn it off. On the one hand, this helps save battery life, but it’s also a form of data protection because when you turn off WiFi, you avoid the risk of an unwanted connection, like an open network, where your personal information and IP address could be exposed. This could make it easy for cybercriminals to commit crimes by knowing where the person is and what bank accounts they have. Because of this, we should only join to trusted and safe networks and turn off WiFi when we’re not in them.
