The first season of House of the Dragon quickly became the biggest opening in HBO and streaming history. This is just the beginning of something that could become a global and cultural phenomenon.

The first season of House of the Dragon began with a very young Rhaenyra Targaryen, a princess who lost her mother. She became the heir to the throne and lost her only friend when she married her father, King Viserys I, jeopardizing her appointment as the future queen.

After a 10-year time skip, Rhaenyra and Alicent Hightower became outright enemies, mothers willing to do anything to protect their children, and the heads of the two different factions the kingdom was divided into when rumors of war began to circulate.

King Viserys died, and his dream of seeing his family united also died with him. In addition, a last conversation between him and Alicent began the battle since Alicent wanted to understand that his son Aegon was the one who should be king. Things are going to get a lot more intense in the second season.

There is a long way to go before the premiere of the second part, but we already know and assume some things.

The Cast

Unless someone else dies in the final episodes of the first season (there are still two left),

Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, and Rhys Ifans return as Princess Rhaenyra, Alicent Hightower, Daemon Targaryen, and Otto Hightower. Sonoya Mizuno, aka Mysaria, will also have to return, as her character plays a bigger role in The Dance with Dragons.

We’ll also see more of Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole and Eve Best as Rhaenys Targaryen, as that promise of marriage was created between his and Rhaenyra’s granddaughters, which connects the two families.

For their part, Ewan Mitchell and Tom Glynn-Carney will likely appear again as Aegon II and Aemond Targaryen. Still, considering that in the story, the children of Rhaenyra are also part of the war, we could have another time jump to show older Luke and Jace, along with slightly older Viserys and Aegon.

House of the Dragon Season 2 will also feature new faces as more important allies for both sides are revealed.

What is the Second Season of House of the Dragon about?

The House of the Dragon season will probably end with the beginning of the war; this means that the second one could show us a lot of strategic meetings, the formation of new alliances, and some bloody battles in which the dragons are going to participate.

In addition, since Aemond still has to take revenge for that occasion in which he loses an eye fighting with his nephews (which he achieves in the books with a lethal fight), there will be many more betrayals, and the death list will become much longer.

When does the Second Season of House of the Dragon Premiere?

According to Variety, Casey Bloys, CEO of HBO Max content, said that the series’ second season will arrive in the summer of 2024 and that, from what they have planned, it will arrive after the period in which the series can be chosen. For the Emmys, which suggests that it could be in June or July since the season ends in May.

In addition, he revealed that they are not focused on launching several series at the same time to keep this universe growing. Bloys said, “my philosophy is that a good script is the number one priority,” he says. “I’m not doing it based on wanting to have one or two a year. I want to do it based on scripts that we’re excited about.

Bloys added that to create House of the Dragon, they had to do a lot of scripts, tests, and pilots; to make more series, they will go through the same process, which means that the projects they have planned may not be ready soon. He confirmed that Jon Snow’s spinoff is still in development.
