If you are travelling, the Google Maps speed limit tool can warn you when you are going too fast and inform you of the speed restriction of the road you are on. Google Maps will display the speed a user is travelling, but the app also urges people to verify their speed using the speedometer in their automobile. Although the app has a speedometer, it is merely informative and should not be trusted. In addition to the expected time of arrival (ETA), the map includes other details, such as the time needed to reach the next turn and a map with its speed restriction.

Google Maps first made the on-screen speedometer available to users in 2019. It was initially limited to select customers in South America, the UK, the US, Europe, and Asia. It has been possible for more people worldwide to obtain the on-screen speedometer. Google shows the user the speed limit of the area they are in along with speed camera warnings. There are places where the speed limit feature is unavailable, but it is coming soon. This is how you enable the speed limit feature if it’s offered in your area. Google cautions its customers to not trust the speedometer seen on their device.

The estimated time of arrival (ETA) and the length of the journey are given in the left corner of the map beneath the button that shows the remaining distance. In addition, the length of the route is available from the map on the left, and the options to minimise navigation are shown at the bottom. In order to get the service working on your Android smartphone, do the following:

  • In your browser, go to Google Maps.
  • Click on your initials in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Access the Settings.
  • Navigation Settings are below the navigation menu.
  • Find the Speed Limits setting and make your preference clear.
  • Google Maps will notify people when they are breaking the speed limit, whether on a road or on a specific road.
