How to Unsend Instagram Messages?

Spread the love

Have you ever sent a message to someone you weren’t intending to send a message to? Or maybe you wrote someone a message and now you’re regretting it.

We’re afraid we can’t help you if it was a text message. Those are permanent, but what if it was an Instagram direct message? Yes, it is possible to delete Instagram messages. Do you want to learn how? Please come into our office.

First, watch as I flood a friend’s Insta DMs with keyboard smashes and feces emoji, which, believe it or not, is not something I would send on purpose. Usually.

Do not be alarmed, poop-emoji-spamming-version of myself. That Instagram message is completely reversible.

1. To unsend a message, first tap and hold it.

There are two options available: copy and unsend. Select “Unsend” from the menu.

A pop-up message will appear, asking if you’re sure you want to delete the communication. It will tell you that the message will be withdrawn from the chat for everyone. It will also notify you that it is possible that others have previously seen it. If the person you’re speaking with has already seen the message, you won’t be able to unsend it. You can take it out of their DMs, but you can’t take it out of their heads.

2. Select “Unsend” from the pop-up menu.

Another pop-up will appear, informing you that the message was not sent. After the pop-up has gone away, you may need to unsend it again. Unsent messages may still be included in the conversation is reported, as the pop-up also states because being able to unsend messages shouldn’t allow people to act out in the DMs without consequence.

If you want to delete a communication, you’ll be able to do so without the pop-ups from then on. Instagram simply wants to make sure you understand how it operates.

Here’s a link to my new message board (minus one blob of text and an onslaught of poop emoji.)

Both messages were never sent and are no longer visible in the thread. That is about all there is to it.

And with that, my poop emoji-filled demonstration comes to a close.
