Sony hasn’t made a handheld system in 10 years, but the Japanese tech giant wants to get back into the market with the Play Station Project Q, a new device it just announced to the surprise of all its fans.

But is it really a new system, or is it more like an addition to the PS5? Read on and let’s find out what this new device with the Play Station name is all about. I’m sure it will give us a lot to talk about.

What are the features of the Play Station Project Q?

Play Station Project Q is the code name for the Sony device that is still being made. But the Japanese business said it will put its product on the market this year and gave some information about it.

First, you should know that the “console” is more of a portable device made for the PlayStation Remote Play feature. Accordingly, it will connect to the PS5 to play games.

The console must be linked to a fast and stable Internet connection (at least 15 MB) in order to play, just like other devices that meet the requirements.

From what we learned from this first announcement, the Play Station Project Q will only be able to play games that have already been downloaded on the Play Station 5. But the big question is whether Sony will also offer a way to play from the cloud directly.

The device has an 8-inch LCD screen that can show 1080p Full HD video at 60 frames per second. Also, the leaked pictures show that the Play Station Project Q has Sony’s Dual Sense controller. It looks like a normal remote was cut in half and a screen was put in the middle.

How much does it cost and when will the Play Station Project Q be available?

The Play Station Project Q is set to come out in 2023, but we don’t know when exactly. Sony hasn’t given a specific date yet, but we’ll keep you up to speed.

There isn’t much information about the price right now, but keep in mind that the PS VR2 costs more than the PS5 itself. We don’t think the Project Q will cost anywhere near $600, since it will have to compete with the Nintendo Switch OLED, but we’ll have to wait and see if that will cost extra.

What portable consoles has Sony released?

Sony‘s first home console, the Play Station, was a big hit, so it made the PocketStation, its first portable video game console, to compete with the Game Boy Color, the VMU, the Neo Geo Pocket, and the SNK Color. However, it didn’t sell well outside of Japan, so it was only available there.

It took Sony seven years to try again. This time, they came out with the PSP, which was a much more advanced portable system that became very popular, even though the Nintendo DS was considered the best of its kind.

In 2011, when it tried to fight with the Nintendo 3DS with the PlayStation Vita, or PS Vita, Sony got back into the game. Mark Cerny made the third and last handheld device made by Sony Computer Entertainment. It sold just over 16 million units, which was much less than expected. This may be why Sony said it wouldn’t make a laptop replacement.
