The Tesla Model Y electric car has been added to the taxi fleet in New York. The electric car has now joined the renowned yellow taxi fleet as part of Gravity Mobility’s electric cab fleet service. Commuters can also hail a Ford Mustang Mach-E EV as part of the taxi service, in addition to the Tesla Model Y. The Model Y is currently part of a pilot program run by New York City’s Taxi and Limousine Commission.

The Tesla Model Y EV taxi made its debut and is currently on exhibit at the New York International Auto Show. It’s worth noting that the Model Y has one of the quickest acceleration times among electric vehicles. The EV can go from 0 to 60 mph in under four seconds and reach a top speed of 250 mph. The seven-seater electric vehicle has a range of roughly 530 kilometers on a single charge, making it ideal for use as a taxi in the fleet.

The Rally Yellow Tesla Model Y taxi has a panoramic roof for sightseeing, a custom 22-inch tablet for rear passengers to adjust climate controls, take selfies, listen to music, and watch videos, and driver-facing AI technology that detects and prevents distracted driving while also monitoring the vehicle for safe driving behavior.

According to the electric vehicle fleet and infrastructure provider, Tesla Model Ys are the first to be commissioned as yellow cabs. While many Tesla Model 3 sedans have recently begun serving as yellow cabs in New York, Gravity’s Model Y may offer more luggage and passenger space.

Gravity Mobility is a taxi company that also provides charging stations. The company claims that their chargers outperform Tesla’s superchargers by charging a wide range of automobiles in minutes.
