Billionaire Elon Musk’s xAI announced the foundation of the artificial intelligence (AI) business on Wednesday with the launch of its website, revealing a team of engineers from Alphabet-owned Google to Microsoft and OpenAI.

Musk, the CEO of Tesla and the owner of Twitter, will lead the startup. Musk has previously stated that AI development should be halted and that the sector requires oversight.

“Announcing the formation of @xAI to understand reality,” Musk tweeted on Wednesday.

According to the website, xAI will host a Twitter Spaces event on July 14. Musk formed a Nevada corporation called X.AI Corp in March.

Musk is listed as the only director of the company, with Jared Birchall, the managing director of Musk’s family office, listed as a secretary.

The website also has an application form for anyone who want to be a part of the firm. The current xAI team claims to have previously worked at “DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Tesla, and the University of Toronto.”

Elon Musk stated in April that he wants to construct a “truth-seeking AI” that rejects political correctness as a competitor to Microsoft’s OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. However, he has expressed concerns about the negative effects of AI, referring to it as having “the potential of civilizational destruction.”

Meanwhile, Musk has merged Twitter with a newly formed “X” shell firm, retaining the platform’s brand identity.
