With the release of iOS 15, Apple will soon be releasing a new feature that will allow iPhone users to track their lost AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. Apple will add support for the ‘Find My’ network with the iOS 15 update. “To get an approximate location of your missing AirPods Pro or AirPods Max, use the Find My network. This will assist you in getting within Bluetooth range so that you can play a sound and locate them,” according to Apple’s support page.

Apple hasn’t specified a release date for the feature, only stating that it will be available “later this fall.”
With iOS 15, Apple is releasing a major update to the FindMy app ecosystem. Even if you lose your iPhone and it is turned off, you can use the FindMy network to track its location. Newer iPhones will be able to use this feature. With iOS 13, Apple introduced Bluetooth device tracking via the FindMy app ecosystem. The biggest issue was that tracking was impossible when the device was turned off.

If your iPhone is stolen and the thief decides to turn it off, you will still be able to track it thanks to the iOS 15 update. The only way to stop the FindMy app from tracking you is to delete the owner of the iPhone’s iCloud account. And to do so, the thief would have to break into your iCloud account, which would be a difficult task.

However, only newer iPhones, such as the iPhone 11 and above, will be able to use this feature. Because Apple uses Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology, this is the case. This is the same tech Apple is using in AirTag to spot lost objects.
