WhatsApp is constantly updating its platform with new features. We just learned that the Meta-owned messaging app is developing a feature that would allow group admins to erase messages posted by other group members. WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will remind users that all calls made over its network are encrypted end-to-end.
According to WABetaInfo, the business plans to include indications that remind customers that all calls made over its platform are encrypted end-to-end. “Your personal calls are end-to-end encrypted,” a message will appear as the indicator. This notification will appear in the Calls tab of the app under every call made or received for voice and video calls made or received from its platform.
WhatsApp plans to display this notification in the Status area of the app in addition to adding it to the Calls tab. It will appear in the section where other users’ status updates are published. According to the source, WhatsApp is going to introduce an end-to-end encryption indicator to chats in addition to the Calls and Status tabs. However, it is yet unclear where the message will display in group and individual chats.
It’s worth mentioning that WhatsApp made end-to-end encryption a feature of its platform in 2016. It also extended the same protection to its conversation backups, which are kept on Google Drive for Android users and iCloud for iPhone users, earlier this year. In unveiling the functionality, WhatsApp stated, “Neither WhatsApp nor your backup service provider would be able to read your backups or access the key required to unlock it.”
