After Mission: Impossible 8 comes out, Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie are planning a strong trio of projects, including the long-awaited musical movie Cruise, a new action saga, and something with Les Grossman from Tropic Thunder.
Christopher McQuarrie, who won an Oscar, has been a mainstay in Tom Cruise’s later movies for a long time. He directed him in Jack Reacher and every Mission Impossible movie up to Rogue Nation. He also produced and helped write the script for Top Gun: Maverick, a movie that just broke the record for Titanic in the U.S. with a worldwide gross of more than $1,300,000,000.

Deadline, which announced the actor’s new projects yesterday afternoon, said that Tom Cruise “has been interested in doing a musical for a long time.” They pointed out that his role in The Rock of Ages helped him learn how to be a rock star. It’s not like going from being a star in Hollywood to being a star in an arena is a big jump.
It hasn’t been decided yet if this project will be a musical continuation of Top Gun: Maverick. Lady Gaga, who sang the Berlin anthem “Hold My Hand” for the high-flying action movie, could be a part of it.

Since Grossman’s first appearance was a cameo, Deadline says, “it’s not clear if they’ll make a whole movie about him or borrow him for any of the other titles.”

So, let’s talk about the other thing the 60-year-old actor has planned. We have to admit that it is the least convincing, but it fits Tom Cruise’s needs the best: a “original action movie with franchise potential” that looks a lot like a continuation of the Mission: Impossible series. We’re hoping for a revenge thriller like Logan, with Tom Cruise as a super agent who has lost hope in a dystopian future and is asked to do one last job for the good of humanity.
Also, it looks like Tom Cruise still wants to make a movie in space with help from NASA and Elon Musk’s SpaceX. Cruise’s retirement is about to be pushed back because he has to work on these new projects.
