The PS5 might be the most expensive game console you can buy right now. The Xbox Series X costs almost 10% less, while the first version of the Nintendo Switch can cost almost 5,000 Mexican pesos less although it is understood since it is not a new generation console. So Sony fans will have to save a lot of money before they can buy this console, not to mention the cost of the games they want to play.
And now it looks like things are getting worse because Sony has decided to raise the price of the PS5 around the world. This, along with the fact that there aren’t enough of these consoles to go around, will make it hard to buy games in the second half of the year.
More expensive
Jim Ryan, CEO and president of Sony, made the announcement on the PlayStation Blog. He said that the company had to make the “difficult decision” to raise the prices of the console around the world because of high inflation rates and the changes that different currencies are going through right now. This will happen in places like Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, China, and all of Latin America, including Mexico. For now, there won’t be a price increase in the United States, but it’s possible that it will happen there at some point.
In places like Japan, the price hike will start on September 15, but it looks like the price of the console is already going up in some online stores. For example, when we went to Amazon, the price was around 12,500 Mexican pesos, but it is now close to 14,000 pesos for the Standard edition. There’s a chance that the price hike hasn’t been reflected in other stores yet, so if you were planning to buy it today, you should run to find it because, given the current rate of inflation, it might not go down in price for a few months. A rise of 50 euros, which is about a thousand pesos, is also calculated in Europe.
This is sure to upset Sony fans in parts of the world where consoles have been hard to get because of problems with supply and production lines. In the United States, for example, it’s sold out in many stores, and when they get it back in stock, it’s gone quickly. So, many people were planning to buy the console in these months, but now they will have to think about the price going up by a lot.
If you thought ordering it from the U.S. would be a good idea, it might not be if you have to pay customs fees.
