iOS 16 Update: The Top Features You Should Know

iOS 16 was recently released for iPhone 8 and later devices. Some features, such as the upgraded Cinematic Mode on the recently announced iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, are said to be limited to specific models. While the latest edition is chock-full of new features ranging from privacy and security to accessibility, we’ve picked a few that stand out. These features are essentially available on all iPhone models running iOS 16 software.

1. The Lock Screen

The new Lock Screen is most certainly the most talked-about and identifiable feature in iOS 16. You may now change the font, color, and placement of Lock Screen components. Do you want to spice up your Lock Screen? Change font styles and modify the appearance of the date and time by choosing from a palette of colors.

Photo topics are dynamically shown in front of the time on the Lock Screen, and you can also choose widgets such as weather, calendar events, time zones, and battery levels, among others.

2. The Focus Mode

iOS 16 enhances the Focus Mode introduced in iOS 15. To begin, iOS 16 merges Focus Mode with the Lock Screen, allowing you to switch between Focus modes with a swipe. You can also customize it with a Lock Screen background and/or widget of your choice. In addition to its partnering with the Lock Screen, Focus Mode’s relationship with additional apps such as Calendar, Mail, Messages, and Safari has been improved. This capability, according to the firm, will be expanded to third-party applications.

“Set restrictions for each Focus you activate within Apple applications such as Calendar, Mail, Messages, and Safari.”

“Set a Focus to turn on at a given time, location, or while using a specific app,” Apple explains.

3. Messages

If you possess an iPhone, you are aware of the importance of the Messages program. In addition to the Messages features you already have, Apple has introduced a few new ones to improve the user experience. You can now alter a message for up to 15 minutes after it has been delivered, and recipients can see any changes you make.

Mail services appear to have had a significant influence on other factors. Have you sent a message to the wrong person? You can “unsend” the message for up to two minutes. In addition, you can mark a correspondence as unread. This option is most likely for people who prefer to respond to text messages when they have more time. Finally, it is possible to recover recently deleted text messages (up to 30 days after deleting them).

4. Passkeys

Passkeys, introduced by Apple, are undoubtedly one of the most forward-thinking advances in terms of user privacy and security. Passkeys are password substitutes. By scanning a QR code with an iPhone and authenticating with Face ID or Touch ID, you can use a remembered passcode to sign in to websites or apps on other devices, including non-Apple devices.

Passkeys are encrypted from beginning to end and synchronized across all of your Apple devices via iCloud Keychain. The private key is never saved on a web server and “never leaves your device and is unique to the website for which you created them.”

5. Live Text

The interactive Live Text element in videos is now available. You can now pause a movie and perform tasks like copying and pasting, searching, and translating. Live Text is supported by Photos, Quick Look, Safari, and other programs. You can follow flights or shipments, transfer currencies, understand different languages, and do a variety of other things. The Live Text repertoire now includes support for Japanese, Korean, and Ukrainian text.

Several new features are included in the iOS 16 release. Here are some more features to think about. Users can share photographs with up to five other people using the iCloud Shared Photo Library. The Mail app in iOS 16 will feature email scheduling, and there will be a new way to dictate with support for voice and keyboard to add and edit text. Automatic punctuation inserts commas, periods, emojis, and question marks as you speak.

Apple CarPlay will be upgraded in 2023, while iCloud Shared Photo Library will be available later this year.
