Four years after the 2018 Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL were introduced, the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro have now been released in India. After such a long wait, Google has decided to once more make premium smartphones available to Indian customers. Yes, Google just introduced the less expensive Pixel 6a in our country, but its performance lagged much below that of the flagship model. Will Google be able to reclaim its position in the premium price class when it launches premium smartphones in India after a four-year hiatus? especially now that Indian consumers may choose from a wide range of devices in these price ranges from a variety of brands. Here are my initial thoughts on the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro after spending some time with them at Google’s launch in New Delhi.
In India, the Google Pixel 7 costs Rs. 59,999, while the Google Pixel 7 Pro costs Rs. 84,999. Only Flipkart is now used to sell them. Three colors are offered for the Pixel 7: Snow, Obsidian, and the brand-new Lemongrass. Along with Snow and Obsidian, the Pixel 7 Pro also comes in a new Hazel color. The Google Pixel 7 has 8GB of RAM, while the Pixel 7 Pro has 12GB, however both models only offer 128GB of storage, which I find to be limiting.
The body-matched aluminum camera bulge on each Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro sticks out despite having a similar appearance to the Pixel 6 range. Every time I wanted to snap a picture of these phones, I had to wipe the rear panels clean because they are unquestionably fingerprint magnets. The color selections in Obsidian and Hazel make fingerprints much more noticeable. I advise choosing the lighter color options if you plan to use either of these phones without a protection.
These devices don’t feel very premium due to their plastic rear panels. Each phone has a separate camera bar on the rear, along with the standard Google logo in the center. The 6.3-inch full-HD+ OLED display on the Google Pixel 7 has a simple 60hz refresh rate, but it is bright enough and appears to have decent saturation levels. The larger 6.7-inch quad-HD+ LTPO OLED Display on the Pixel 7 Pro features a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. On both of these devices, the bezels are comparatively narrow.
Because it is rather compact, the Pixel 7 feels much more comfortable in the hand than the Pixel 7 Pro. Despite their different sizes, these two phones have similar weights; the Pixel 7 weighs 197g, while the Pixel 7 Pro weighs 212g. The sides of the smaller Pixel 7 are matte aluminum. The polished aluminum sides of the Pixel 7 Pro give a similar feel to those of the Pro iPhone models, but they also make the frame more susceptible to fingerprints and smudges. The layout of the buttons is the identical on both devices, with the power and volume keys on the right, the SIM card slot on the left, and the USB-Type C connector, main speaker, and microphone on the bottom.
Being IP68 water and dust resistant on both of these phones is a benefit because few other smartphones in the Indian market do, especially ones that cost as much as the Google Pixel 7.
A 50-megapixel wide camera with an f/1.85 aperture and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 aperture are both featured on the Pixel 7. The 50-megapixel wide camera in the Pixel 7 Pro is the same, but its 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera also has autofocus, allowing for macro photography. but The 48-megapixel telephoto camera, which produces some respectable pictures, is another feature that is restricted to the more expensive model. There is no doubt that video quality has improved from the previous generation. The images captured in favorable lighting came out well, and I really enjoyed the macro feature on the Pixel 7 Pro. According to Google, the macro mode can capture images of objects that are up to 3 cm away, and after using it myself, I have to agree that the picture quality is excellent. Both the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are equipped with the Titan M2 security chip in addition to Google’s Tensor G2 SoC. In the brief time I spent with them, none of the phones displayed any symptoms of lagging and are both rather quick. The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro ship with Android 13 out of the box, and Google promises three years of software updates and five years of security patches. As you might anticipate from Pixel products, the interface is incredibly slick and clutter-free. These phones will undoubtedly be appreciated by fans of vanilla Android.
