Apple has confirmed that iOS 16.1 would be issued as a free update on October 24, which means it might be available for download in India as early as Monday night, according to reports. iOS 16.1 will be available for all of the same devices that iOS 16 is now available for, which includes all iPhones powered by the A11 Bionic SoC and later, beginning with the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. iOS 16.1 will include the normal bug fixes and behind-the-scenes enhancements, but it is also likely to include a number of iOS 16’s headline features that were not ready at the time of its release.
iPhone users can check for iOS 16.1 by going to Settings > General > Software Update, or they can wait for a prompt if they have automatic updates enabled.
iOS 16.1 features
iOS 16.1 will include several noticeable new features, the most notable of which being Live Activities, which are notifications that can be pinned to users’ lockscreens to display live updates of ongoing activities. These may contain sports scores, breaking news, and even delivery app status updates. Third-party app developers will be able to establish connections with the iOS lockscreen and even the Dynamic Island on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max devices using the Live Activities API.
When iOS 16 was originally seen, iCloud Shared Photo Library was introduced. Users who use iCloud family sharing will be able to store photographs and movies directly to a shared library using this capability. This photo library can be accessed by up to six family members, who can pick which of their existing photos and films to add to it.
The much-desired battery % icon reappears in iOS 16.1 in a more helpful avatar that clearly communicates the energy level. It will also be visible on qualifying iPhone models with smaller and lower-resolution screens that couldn’t see it in iOS 16.
Matter, the new communication standard for smart homes and IoT devices, will be supported beginning with iOS 16.1. This could accelerate the adoption of smart home accessories by establishing a single ecosystem that is simple to administer and expand.

iOS 16.0.3 is the most recent version. With the release of the iPhone 14 series in early September, Apple introduced iOS 16, which included a dramatic redesign of the lockscreen UI, the addition of lockscreen widgets, the ability to edit iMessages, improved search in the email app, more Siri commands, text recognition in videos, a Fitness app that works without an Apple Watch, and numerous bug fixes. Since then, incremental releases have primarily focused on bug fixes and security enhancements.
Which iPhone models support iOS 16
The recently released iPhone 14 series, which includes the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max, will be compatible with iOS 16.1. All devices in the iPhone 13 series are also eligible: the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max are still popular and widely available in India. Apple’s iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max, as well as the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max, will all receive an iOS update.
The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus are the oldest eligible models. iOS 16.1 will also be available for the more cheap iPhone SE (2020) and iPhone SE (2022). For the first time since iOS 13, Apple has deleted support for earlier models dating back to the iPhone 6S and even the final iPod touch generation.
How to install iOS 16.1
How to install iOS 16.1 should be as simple as a few screen taps. Some people may download the update as soon as it becomes available, while others may wait a few days or weeks for unanticipated bugs to be discovered and fixed.
